DINERO GRATIS (FREE MONEY)


The Dinero Gratis collective and several members of the Graphic Agency organized a tactical workshop in February of 2001.
That was the beginning of a collaborative and open process, where graphic concepts such as the Dinero Gratis adhesive tape, were produced.
Las Agencias workshops are based, not simply in the idea of bringing artistdesigners and social movements together to the working table, but, more importantly in the idea that at some point no one will remember who is a social movement and who artist.
The idea is for political and visual concepts to enmesh with each other until they are indistiguishable.
This particular workshop was a good example.
The Dinero Gratis campaign is also a strong example of the force materials can assume when they are reapropriated.
In June in the middle of the barcelona campaign against the world bank, people involved in the counterconference or in the "La Bolsa o La Vida" action discovered the Dinero Gratis adhesive tape and stickers and began using them in whichever way they saw fit.
Soon, the DG logo was everywhere.
