6 press release (17/06/2003) 2nd day of resistance in Itoitz
The tense moments that were lived yesterday during the wild eviction of Itoiz village has been repeated

The tense moments that were lived yesterday during the wild eviction of Itoiz village have been repeated today at midday when a machine that belongs to the demolition company Perez del Río, has started to pull down a part of one of the houses in which our fellows go on resisting. When the mediator team from our group has warned of the danger of this work the machine has stopped its activity.

Around two o´clock in the afternoon a firemen truck and a van have appeared in the village. It seems that the Goverment of Navarra has asked their collaboration to get the people anchored in the walls out as soon as possible. It´s been confirmed that these fire men belong to the station in Pamplona and the information that they have been given is that the people anchored in the walls wanted to get out. After arriving there the van has gone back to Pamplona. However the fire men who arrived in the truck have started to work to evict the people who were with their arms in the tubes around the strongroom.

Around 15,30 h.the Goverment of Navarra has given a press release, in which claiming lack of hygiene and security in the houses, has announced that it´s going to evict inmediately the people anchored and locked up.

On the other side we know that throughout the afternoon a meeting is going to be held, in which members of the Goverment of Navarra, the Civil Guard and the Foral police are going to analyse the measures to be taken against the resistance is taking place in Itoiz.

The responsible of the Foral police, Sr. Gonzalez has been in Itoiz as he did yesterday in the afternoon.

Around four in the afternoon and as they couldn´t go on pulling down the houses the only excavator that remained in the village has been taken to another village, Orbaitz, which is two kilometres from Itoiz, and ther they have started the demolition of some houses. When some people who were supporting the people resisting in Itoiz have come near this village have suffered a charge with rubber bullets by the Foral riot police.

Around this time the Foral police, the fire men and some workers have managed to get out four people who were chained up in pairs into two double tubes built in the wall. Yesterday these people went through very tense moments when the workers started to make a hole in the wall without being well shored up. Some stones fell on the bodies of these people and as it was a real danger the works were stopped.

On the other side the four people who were arrested yesterday, when the Civil Guard charged against the demonstration held up yesterday, have been freed. These people are summone up to declare to the judge on thursday in the morning at twelve in the morning.

Around 18,30 h. the four people who were with their arms in the tubes around the strongroom have been evicted by the firemen.
